We all have knots in our lives – things that keep us away from God, our family or our friends – things that may have hardened our hearts. While providing services to others at Catholic Charities, these knots are often visible in the face of a stranger.
Through the distant stare of a young woman as we try to penetrate her exterior shell with a greeting of kind words and a smile before handing her a bag of food.
Through the eyes of the mother calculating how she’ll carry her meal box and diapers back to her apartment with a baby in its carrier and two more young kids in tow.
And in the voice of the hungry, elderly woman whose children don’t come to visit her due to an estranged relationship.
The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly affected people of all ages, races, and backgrounds. But beyond the perpetuated feeling of fear that has been so prevalent in today’s world, a mother’s strength has never been greater.
It is a strength fueled by a deeper love than anything else on this earth. It is made of deep devotion and sacrifice. It is endless, unselfish and unexplainable.
A mother never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need and her hands never cease to extend with care. A mother is the true undoer of knots as her maternal instinct to protect her children shines through whatever darkness is surrounding her family.
We are blessed to be able to witness a mother’s love each day at Catholic Charities as they come through with their children and leave with hope, relief and gratitude. Our food services have increased by 74% since the effects of COVID-19 began to take place and we could not continue to meet these great needs without your support. Thank you for allowing us to be there for the mothers of the world and so many more.
This weekend we celebrate mothers for being a sign of hope to the world. Let us always remember there is no knot that cannot be undone.
May God bless you and your families always.
