Merced Harvest of Hope

Merced Harvest of Hope

In a time when the need for our services is greater than ever before, it is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation our single largest donation generating event, Harvest of Hope.

It seems like not so long ago we were celebrating the great success of last year’s event – one that helped provide assistance to thousands of people throughout Merced County. But over the last several months, much has happened as we’ve watched a world pandemic take it’s course and in some way affect us all in our families, in our personal lives, and in our businesses.

Here at Catholic Charities, the financial devastation to working families has been overwhelming as they continue to walk through our doors looking for answers. Instead of driving to the job they’ve dedicated so many years to, they’re left wondering how they’ll pay their mortgage, feed their children, or continue to manage this “new normal” way of life and for how long.

Because of our generous Merced community, we’ve been able to provide food for these families at our site on Main Street five days a week. We’ve also maintained our commitment to fulfilling service gaps in rural communities throughout the county by delivering food to Dos Palos, Planada and migrant camps in Atwater through coordinated outreach events taking place throughout each month.

In the last year, our services have increased by 134% and only 8% of those being served are homeless. Approximately 40% of those seeking our services right now have never walked through our doors before. These are families who desperately need our help and have nowhere else to turn.

As we look ahead at the months to come, we know this may be just the beginning of a very long road to recovery. But through this fear of the unknown, we remain faithful and committed to serving those most vulnerable. We ask that you please consider supporting our “Hope from Home” effort in which all sponsorships and donations will be put towards helping our neighbors in crisis. Please see the opportunities below to learn more about how your kindness and generosity will impact families in the greatest of need during this time.

In a world full of uncertainty, one thing is certain – hope will never be cancelled.
